Student Choreographers

GOH JIA YIN

A third year Business undergraduate at SMU, Jia Yin began dancing and performing at the age of 12 with the Hokkien Huay Kuan Arts & Cultural Dance Troupe, Nanyang Girls’ High School as well as Hwa Chong Institution. Being a former President of INDANCITY, she has performed and competed in numerous events such as the CSTD 10th Asia-Pacific Dance Competition in 2009, which emerged Champion in the Modern Group Open Category.

Her dance experiences have exposed her to various dance forms and have also given her the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Albert Tiong, Dan Kwoh, Lim Moi Kim, and Chen Li Li. She has choreographed items for her schools’ dance showcases and more recently choreographed a short piece for SMU’s CCA Day- Vivace 2008.

HONG GUO FENG

Guo Feng first came into contact with dance at the age of 13 under the tutelage of Henry Ng and Benedict Soh. He joined Dance Horizon Troupe (Singapore) in 2002 and took on prominent roles in Ballet, Chinese and Contemporary Dance. Guo Feng performed as guest artist for Dance Ensemble Singapore in 2003, and has also contributed choreographies to National Junior College and Yuan Ching Secondary School. In 2009, he took part in the CSTD 10th Asia Pacific Dance Competition, emerging Champion in the Modern Group Open Category.

LEE SYN YI

Syn Yi started out with a background in Chinese Dance, subsequently moving on to the contemporary dance style from the age of 13 till today. She has performed with St. Nicholas Girls’ School, Raffles Girls Secondary and Raffles Junior College in the Singapore Youth Festival (1995, 2001, 2003, 2005), and was for a large part under the tutelage of Mdm Low Mei Yoke. She also performed with Frontier Danceland in the ASEANChina Cultural Performance (2006) in Siem Reap, representing Singapore with a Contemporary Chinese piece. Being founding memeber of INDANCITY, she first led the troupe as Dance Captain, and has previously choreographed for smaller showcases.
